Portland Oregon Walk Scores

Many relocating to Portland Oregon ask for a ‘walkable neighborhood’.

This can mean a variety of things to home buyers.  A stroll around the neighborhood to smell the roses, level for a young bicycle enthusiast just mastering training wheels, walking distance to Starbucks, walkable to run errands or get to school, or transit to jump on MAX (Metro Area Express light rail).

The company Walkscore compiles data using a unique methodology – Complete with an advisory board,  they measure how walkable, how bikeable, even transit locations.

The Portland area is known for niche neighborhoods

Our terrain with rivers, mountains, and trees, gives us a unique challenge at times, but many of our communities score well.  It really depends on where in the community you live.  Lake Oswego scores a 37.  Though if you live in First addition you will score an 87.

In West Linn, my score is a 27.  Though if I still lived in historic Willamette area my score would be a 63.  Our first home in NEPDX Alameda matched the Portland walk score but the bike score is an 83!
